It's all about the tenderloin. It's well-cooked but not much seasoning. Decent bun. Solid overall. Good onion rings, too. I'd say they are the star here. The tenderloin is a bit small--not a bad thing in an,d of itself, but a bit of a departure from tradition. This was nice and juicy, but the breading didn't have the crunch or flavor I was hoping for. I dig the 70's wood panel vibe inside. I'll definitely give it another shot--it is, after all, a classic Hoosier tenderloin joint. Even though I think the tenderloin is three stars, I'm giving this place four b/c it's a nice family-run place. If I come back and the tenderloin is what I expected, I'll give it five stars.

I recently moved to North Manchester and this place seemed all the hype to locals so I figured I had to give it a try. I got the "famous" breaded tenderloin with onion rings and an order of mozzarella sticks and, to my unfortunate surprise, bit into one of the worst breaded tenderloins I've ever had. I'm sorry, North Manchester, but this is not the tenderloin you deserve. I'm not sure if the meat was frozen and then cooked but it was grisly and very bland as well. The best part of the meal was the mozzarella sticks, but really how can you mess those up. Onion rings had a bad aftertaste as if deep fried in old grease. Sure, I can imagine a time long ago when this cute little place served fresh, delicious food, but that is not the case anymore. Move on, people. tl;dr Suckssssss

I had high expectations on Mr. Dave's since rediscovering a copy of an old magazine article ["Love me Tenderloin" - Gourmet Mag. Jan 2003] highlighting the nation's best breaded tenderloin sandwiches. The famous Gnaw Bone Tenderloin was wonderful at the original location - and on re-reading this article, I was fast 'n loud for N Manchester. Sadly, very sadly - the sandwich I've experienced over the weekend at Mr. Dave's failed to live up to the past days of glory hype. It was a production style - seemingly prepared and frozen some time ago. Closer to a Pete's Pride Pork Fritter than one of Indiana's best and most lauded. The posted newspaper and magazine articles inside trumpeting those heady days had a publish date earlier than a decade ago. It was O...K. Sweetie had same sandwich and we shared sides of onion rings, broasted potato wedges and cole slaw. Rings were fine, potatoes were fine - cole slaw was OK. I don't mind greasy spoons and dives - to me the place seems tired - or perhaps 'retired' is more appropriate. Am I going back? maybe some day. I drive past 20-30 times/year. Am I going to make a special trip, drive an hour+ for that tenderloin? nope.

old school throw back. mr. dave's is near my grandma's house in indiana, and i dream about that breaded pork tenderloin. as a kid we used to go there and get them, and the fried mushrooms, even after we'd had dinner at my grandma's house. i always make sure to stop there if i'm in the area now. regular, run of the mill bun, but a crispy, thin, juicy, porky perfect piece of fried meat in the center, that's 2x the size of the bun. i always get mine with just mayo, so good. i don't think in the entire 25+ years i can remember eating breaded tenderloins from here that i ever had a bad one. i wish i didn't live so far away now!

The other reviewer is crazy. I have been going here for years and enjoy the small town feel. Food is probably 4 stars but i feel i need to balance out the 2 stars from Bob H. For a small town it doesnt get any better than this.

We tried the pork fritter, the turkey club, the fried mushrooms, onion rings, cheesy tater wedges, chili, and potato soup. Found it to be a very nice lunch option. Quality of food was very acceptable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Also got a quart of fresh honey to take home. Nice place when you are in North Manchester and need lunch.

This place is one of the things I miss most about Indiana! The burgers and tenderloins are wonderful and the broasted potatoes are worth the wait for them to be prepared, but what always keeps me coming back is the veggie basket. It has the old downtown, small town diner feel to it and the staff is always friendly and fast. One of the best places in town for a lunch with a friend.
